Sharan K S - Selected for National Volunteers Hackathon 2021

Sharan KS, a third year Btech student in KMEA Engineering College, Aluva. Likes to innovate things and mostly interested in Embedded systems. He has published a Patent on a product named Electrostatic air purifier. Also he is an active member of NSS. Wanted to develop a proper waste management system.

SOCIAL ISSUE

Difficulty facing in disposing used masks and sanitary pads. Peoples living in flats face this problem mostly. Burning of this kind of materials will cause environmental issues and respiratory illnesses also.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

By building a portable incinerator which can dispose used masks and sanitary pads without causing any environmental problems. We can install this device anywhere (house, institutions, Hospitals, Public places etc). The cost of this device will also be less. The gases emitted from this incinerator can be collected using an Electrostatic air purifier which can prevent the mixing of this gases with atmosphere.

CONCERN

Due to careless handling of used masks and sanitary pads cause illness and environmental problems also. Our Portable Electrostatic incinerator is an eco friendly device that can solve this problem permanently.

PROJECT

Electrostatic incinerator

DESCRIPTION:

Our Incinerator uses high voltage for burning this materials. The principle is same as the arc welding which uses electricity for welding. And Electrostatic air purifier(ESAP) works with the simple principle of Electrostatics which is like charges repels and unlike charges attracts. That is ESAP ionizes the particulate matter inside gas and attracts them to another electrode. Which helps to prevent the mixing of this particulate matter with the atmosphere. Here we are using only less components due to this the size of the incinerator and cost will be less.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

  • Make a low cost, eco friendly, portable incinerator which can dispose used sanitary pads and masks.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

  • GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
