Maitreyi’s interest in the social sector was sparked during her childhood while she was serving in her school’s interact club. Pursuing her bachelors in Social Sciences and Humanities at Ambedkar University, Delhi, widened her horizons about the scope and diversity of work happening in the field of development. This interest was further deepened during her under grad days by her stint at Care India solutions for sustainable development and working as a Yes foundation Media for social change fellow with Peepul, an education Non profit. Presently, she is working as a Teach for India Fellow in Delhi, strengthening her commitment to the cause of educational inequity in India.
SOCIAL ISSUE
Our survey with 100 women in 3 low-income communities in Delhi shows women in under-resourced communities experience a feeling of lost individual identity and poor mental health due to a multitude of interconnected contributors. A lack of an ecosystem of support and a lack of financial decision-making power within their households contributes to this problem.
PROPOSED SOLUTION
We want to create a community of women, empowered to take financial decisions, with a renewed sense of individual and social identity. Our mission is to provide these women with basic English literacy skills, basic financial management skills and opportunities to build an ecosystem of support. To achieve this we want to run an adult literacy program, a financial literacy program and a self-help group for catharsis simultaneously.
